I was trying to decide when to post this. Wasn't sure I'd have time later in the week, and looks like Halloween is going to be pretty busy as well. So here we go. You can also read it here at Fanfiction.net.

Rating: PG-ish, mostly for language.
Summary: A haunted corn maze and house of horrors at a farm. Plus Sam and Dean. Hilarity ensues.
Categories: Gen, humor, fluff
Word Count: 2,630
Spoilers: Pilot, Asylum, Hell House, Everybody Loves a Clown. Takes place in late season 1, directly before Dead Man's Blood.
Disclaimer: I don't own them. Never have, never will (except for the clones *g*). But I'll play nice with them and return them in good condition... or at least try to. ;)
A/N: I'm still basically a novice when it comes to SPN fic, so please be gentle. A huge thanks to [info]amaranthtraces for the beta.

We don't really have time for this, Dean. )

Hope you liked. :) Oh, and question for anyone else who posts fics under LJ cuts. Do you have trouble getting all the text behind the LJ cut? I started a cut and then tried to copy/paste all the text from my document file, but it kept going outside the cut. I had to copy/paste each line of text individually from the Fanfiction.net link where I have it uploaded. It's very tedious but if that's the only way to do it, I guess it'll have to do.

First I want to wish another Happy Birthday to another amazing friend, [info]babyjames22

*er, somewhat related... thanks to Photobucket's lovely decision to cut our storage space down to 500mb, it looks like my account is 69% full. I don't want to remove anything from my PB because I post most of the caps and other pics for my picspams over there. I don't want to break the links or have to go back and edit all my posts to update the URLs of the pics if I post them somewhere else. Should I get a second PB account or get an additional account at another site? I don't know if I want to go with a paid account... I haven't looked into it but I'm assuming the price isn't worth it. So... any advice?

Second, I found a new Supernatural article from the TV Week magazine for the Sunday New York Post. Dated September 6-12, 2009. I scanned it and uploaded it to my gallery, so I'll post it here. It's quite spoilery for season 5, so I'm sticking it behind a cut. Not sure if it's been posted at any of the SPN comms ... if you haven't seen it there, let me know and I'll post it there as well.

TV Week SPN article )

Leaving this post public since I posted the article - if anyone wants to link to this. :)

ETA: Also almost forgot... a friend of mine has started a Gilmore Girls fic and I promised I'd spread the word:

For Choices by [info]cgf_kat
Summary: The campaign trail over, Rory Gilmore comes home. All she wanted was a job nearby, but what she finds turns her world upside-down...Jess, Dean, AND Logan, all appearing in her life again in one way or another. Friends with two, at odds with the other...but will it stay that way? One mistake will set Rory back on course to the one she's always been meant for.

She's only got 2 chapters done so far, but it's quite good. If you're interested in GG, please give it a read, and tell her I sent ya. ;)

On the Stargate front, voting has opened for the 2008 Blue Moon Awards...

http://www.moonsmusings.com/bluemoon/

And because I am a colossal IDIOT (which is why I mentioned wanting a "d'oh!" icon) I never got the chance to tell them that Unexpected Souvenir does NOT belong in the Daniel/Vala category. Even though the story starts off as D/V it's not the main pairing.

Stupid stupid stupid....

Oh well I don't know why I'm making such a big deal. I don't expect to get any votes for it anyway; rather I expect to get death threats from voters who read it and expected it to be D/V all the way through.  I should just cut my losses.  The story isn't even that good anyway.

Yeah yeah I should have told them about it ASAP, but then my stupid internet went down and I got sick, and I couldn't remember exactly when voting opened (to be honest I didn't think it started until the 30th).  So yeah it's my own fault. I've made my bed and I just have to lie in it I guess. Feel free to "NEENER NEENER NEENER" me all you like....  lol

Though my other fic is in the right category, the Cam/Vala one, so I guess all is not lost.

Wow, I never thought I'd reach this point ... well ok, I didn't think I'd reach this point *yet*.  I was working on caps for my next picspam when this idea suddenly hit me.

Warning: This is my first ever SPN fic.  The idea itself is really silly and I'm not sure if I got Dean and Sam's voices just right.  It's also unbeta'd.  I'd like to put it up on fanfiction.net, but if anyone would like to give me suggestions or beta for me, I'd really appreciate it.

Title: The Stuff of Legends
Author: [info]jessm78
Rating: PG
Summary: Sam finds some interesting information on the internet.
Category: Gen, Humor, Parody
Spoilers: Can't think of any. Possibly a very vague one for Skin. This is probably best set around mid to late season 1, before Dead Man's Blood.
Disclaimer: I don't own them. Kripke does. I'm just borrowing them for a little while.
A/N: This ficlet is dedicated to the lovely people who comment on my Puppy!Sam picspams. I'd be lying if I didn't say you guys inspired this. So, thanks! *hugs you all*

Not long, but behind a cut anyway to spare you the ugly sight if need be. *grin*

[info]aminuleen  !!!  I hope you have a great day! :)

Um... in other news... saw Sarah Jane Adventures and Dr. Who on Friday...

Boring day here.  Day started off nice and sunny, now it's growing overcast and there is a chance of thunderstorms.  I will probably be doing multi-fandom stuff today.  As far as Stargate goes, I am working on a short one-shot for the Sam/Daniel-Thon.  My muse is finally back on track and it's such a great feeling.  I'm about halfway done with the story, maybe a little more.  Going to send back to my beta soon.  On the Supernatural side, I'll probably do more screen capping today as well... seems like the perfect day for it.  I'm almost halfway through season 2 with the caps so coming along pretty well.  I should actually have my mood theme done soon (*gasp*). And tomorrow will be another Puppy!Sam picspam.

Hope you all had a nice weekend. :)

I just found out one of my SG-1 fics was nominated for the 2008 Stargate Blue Moon Awards.

I have it up on FanLib.com, and just got a notification from that site about it.

I'm stunned.

And this is one of my (at least IMHO) better fics, unlike the crappy one that got nommed for the SG Fan Awards. Not that I'm expecting it to win or anything, but still... wow.

Anyway it was This Fic that got nominated.

To whomever out there that nominated me - I totally was not expecting it and I'm very honored. So, thank you. :)

... so that was a pleasant surprise. :)

So just throwing out some random stuff...

First, the comm [info]sg1_five_things  has unscreened the prompt 39.04 "5 Times Sam and Daniel Went Out Together (as friends or on a "date")." Mine is posted there and there are a bunch of other nice ones as well. Check them out here

Second, I've noticed that The Legacy (Repro Images) site has been leaking some of the new-old Supernatural promo pics from S1 and 2. Speaking of which, their message board seems to be "On Hiatus." Anyone know what's going on with that? Anyway many of them have shown up in the [info]dean_sam  comm. I noticed [info]karmicunderpath  took one of the pics and tried to improve it ...take out the overwhelming bluishness of it... I thought she did a great job. I got kinda curious and wondered if I could do anything with that pic myself. So I tweaked the color balance and saturation a bit, did some shading, and here is what I came up with:

Not really much different from hers, and I think hers is a lot better... but I was just playing around with it and seeing what I could come up with.

And since I'm still bored, I thought I'd swipe this meme from [info]ckll

I promise I will have some new icons to post by tomorrow or Tuesday.

aka The evolution of their relationship through canon, and some personal thoughts.

And by “relationship” I mean friendship. In my personal thoughts I might extend that just a tad, but for the most part I'm talking about their friendship. How it started, where it's ended up, and what we hope to expect in the future (provided we see more SG-1 movies).

There will be some spoilers for Ark of Truth in a later part. Hopefully not too specific, but I'll include them in a cut for those who want to remain spoiler-free.  This whole thing (from season 1 to the movies) ended up being 14 pages long. Oy.  So I'll be breaking it up into a few parts.

So, let's go all the way back to the beginning.

Part 1:  )

Any questions/comments/things you think I should add to this?  Please let me know!  This meta discussion is continued in Part 2: Sha're's Death to Daniel's Descension (Both Times).

This was my entry for the Sam-Daniel-Rebellion's Advent Drabble Challenge.  The prompt was "mistletoe."

An Old Tradition
Rating: PG
Subjects: Drabble, romance, humor, holiday
Spoilers: None. Takes place Season 7 or 8-ish.
Summary: Daniel finds himself in a little trouble.

Disclaimer: All that standard stuff applies. I don't own them, never did and never will. But they are fun to play with.

***************************

“You've done it now, Danny boy.”

Sam just grinned.

“What?”

“If only Daniel Jackson had moved several centimeters to the right. But he is now-”

“What??”

Sam's grin widened.

“Seriously, guys ... What?”

Wordlessly she gestured above.

“Mistletoe?”

Jack snickered. Teal'c gazed stoically, almost contritely.

Both preceded Sam leaping onto Daniel and fulfiling that old Christmas tradition. A tradition sweetened by the intoxicating scent of her skin, the mingling tastes of eggnog and peppermint, and the heat generated each and every time she shared this gift with him, be it Christmas or any old day.

And this was somehow a problem?

After doing a bit more fic-reading the past two days, I had some thoughts and was wondering about something.

How many of you use readers' reviews in order to determine how your story unfolds? Do you rely on them completely, or only sometimes if they plant a little idea in your head that you think you might use?

I know a few authors who rely solely on reviews to tell them how to write a story, and it almost intrigues me.  I'm not talking about anyone in particular and I'm not trying to shoot anyone down, I just find it interesting.  I guess it may be a common thing for people who just post the story as they update it and not waiting till it's complete before doing so.  On one of my stories, I did have one or two reviews that had me thinking, "Hmm, that could be an interesting plot device" or something to that effect.  But that was where it stopped.  I had reviews where people would say "Oh, you should have this character get roughed up, bla bla blah" that were pretty interesting but it wasn't where I wanted to take the story.

I also find that people who use reviews to tell them where a story goes can be a little ... I don't know ... a little bit much with begging for reviews.  Again I'm not trying to shoot anyone down with this.  Heck I've begged for reviews in the past, LOL.  But one thing that can get a little annoying is when people say "Please, I need reviews or I'll just stop posting the story."  There have been times where I'd post my fics in the various Yahoo groups I belong to and I'd get no feedback whatsoever while others would get tons of it.  In fact it still happens.  I still get a little discouraged and wonder why I'm bothering to post the stories if no one apparently was reading them.  I'd think "well, I guess I'm not writing what they like."  There were times where I'd really want to say something, like "I'll just stop posting my fics here if no one is interested in them."

But I catch myself because I realize that I'm writing for myself first and foremost.  If other people tell me they like it, well that's certainly nice and it does make me feel better about my writing (which I admit I sometimes need...I tend to be way too hard on myself... *blushes*).  But I write because I enjoy it.  I have stories I like to tell.  And that all goes back to the question of whether reviews determine how your story gets written.  If I have an idea and I already have a story all plotted out - I know how it's going to unfold... I don't need reviews to point me in whatever direction.  They can be helpful sometimes, like if you're having trouble with one little thing or if it's something you didn't think of beforehand that sounds cool.  But I don't rely on them solely.

But those who do, I find it interesting.  Not interesting as in "weird," but interesting as in... different, I guess.  I was just wondering if any other fic-writers here do that, or what your thoughts on it are.

Subjects: Friendship, Angst, Hurt/Comfort and just a pinch of UST

And I have to say I had a really great time.  But I think checking my email was a huge mistake because I think my con high has skidded and I'm down in the dumps.

First of all, that stupid ugliness on Our Stargate... Some moron actually had the nerve to dredge it up again, even days after we'd all moved on.  They said "you have an innate sense of fairness." A sarcastic reply to something I'd said obviously.  So I guess it's another lackey of the idiot who started this thing defending her.  I seriously don't know why some people can't just let things die.

Then I get a review alert for my Cam/Vala and Sam/Daniel story on ff.net.  Telling me that S/D is gross, that they like C/V but S/D turns them off, and "are you guys even aware that Sam has loved Jack for most of the show and at Daniel's specific question she answered that she and Daniel were never anything but friends, more specifically that they never had romantic feelings for each other? Or do you just ignore that fact because it doesn't fit with your nice little delusional world? Or perhaps you don't even know that there's a Jack O'Neill (especially if you started watching show with S9) and that he and sam are in love?"

Wow.  Gee. I feel so loved.  I'm delusional because I don't see something the way someone else does.  And boy it's funny, but I was SO sure that I stated what the pairings were up front, AND I put a disclaimer that if you hate either of the pairings not to tell me so in a review.

Seriously, are they ANY respectful Sam/Jack shippers out there? Meaning ones who won't find fics that pair either Sam or Jack with other people and flame the authors?  It's people like this who give shipping a bad name.  I replied to this person's review telling them I gave them fair warning and that I don't know why they can't just ship and let ship.  I wonder how old this person is, maybe 10? What's more I can't delete the stupid thing because it's not an anonymous review and if I reported them I know nothing can be done.

It's for this reason that I was so hesitant to post any of my C/V fics on fanfiction.net, because the two I have written (well mostly written) include S/D as a secondary pairing and it seems that most people who ship C/V also ship S/J and are nasty and childish about the whole thing.

Yeah I know I shouldn't let this stuff bother me but I don't know why I should be putting up with crp like this.  I'm way too sensitive to not let things this stupid bother me.

So yes I had a lot of fun at the con but now I'm in an awful mood because of these two idiots.  Sorry if you were expecting a con report and got this instead.  I just had to vent.  I will be putting up a report (and some pics hopefully) soon.

I should add, "within the Fanfiction.net community", I suppose. So I posted my story the other day (and again thanks to everyone here who commented on it - I really appreciate it), and I only got 3 reviews at Fanfiction.net. Strangely enough it did get 225 hits.

Do people really find my writing that bad, not worthy of reading? Or if they do read it (as suggested by the number of hits) do they not find it worthy of a review? I know the majority of Stargate SG-1 fanfic on that site is Daniel/Vala and Sam/Jack, but I know people who also write Sam/Daniel like me and they still get a lot more hits and reviews.

What am I doing wrong? Do people not like one-shots? Is my style too drab? Too angsty? Too smarmy? I hate to sound like I'm an attention whore or egocentric or begging for reviews, but I always find them helpful and they let me know that people are taking the time to read, so I'm not writing the stories and posting them for nothing. They make me feel better about my writing, which sometimes I think.... well, see the title of this post. *blushes*

It's not just Fanfiction.net. I belong to several Yahoo groups and no one comments there either. It's mostly just me and this other woman posting stories, and everyone comments on hers, but not mine. I just get ignored and it makes me wonder why I should bother posting them at all.

That said, I really think LJ is the best place to read stories and talk about them. I'm not sure why, but I get a lot more feedback about what I write here than anywhere else lately. Everyone's been very helpful, so I really appreciate it.

I just wish I could discount the lack of reviews elsewhere... but it still bothers me somewhat...

I've done it.  I've finally finished my Unending missing scenes/tag fic.  I did have another idea that would be a "fix-it" of sorts (aka be AU), and I still might go through with that one, but the muse kept torturing me with this here idea.  I begged her to stop but she's one persistent gal... *puts head in hands*

So, muse, this is for you - and for anyone who, like me, wasn't too happy with the way Unending turned out.  I wrote it so that it's still pretty much canon, at least through most of it, but it takes a different turn later on.

Just as a warning, it starts off Daniel/Vala, but the way things end up I'm not sure if D/V fans would like it (unless you don't mind the idea of Sam/Daniel ^^).  Oh, there's also some wee dollops of Sam/Cam friendship, Sam/Teal'c friendship, and a pinch of Teal'c/Vala friendship (as well as some implied Cam/Vala 'ship).

Feedback is always welcome - the muse craves it!  A big thank you to my friend Amaranth Traces for the beta work.  Not sure if you'll see this hon, but the muse and I appreciate you all the same! *hugs*

Now, finally, on with the fic. :)  It was too big to put in one post, so I have a link for part 2 at the bottom.

Unexpected Souvenir

Rating: PG-13

Pairings: See above

Subjects: Angst, UST/Unrequited Feelings, Friendship, Romance

Spoilers: The First Commandment, Fire and Water, Singularity, Fallen, Avalon, Unending

Disclaimer: I don't own them and never will.  I just like to take them out and play with them every so often.

Well my teeth are feeling a lot better finally. I think my mouth has healed for the most part. Still I'm going to let my dentist know when I go back on Tuesday that I was not happy. I'm seriously thinking of seeing the dentist who's the landlord of our new office space instead, if things keep up this way.

This weekend my grandmother was staying with us. She and my mom had to attend a baby shower of a cousin's daughter who I don't think I've ever met (as sad as that may sound).

Let's see... ah, I just finished a fic that's my own take on Unending. Mostly some missing scenes and a tag that continues where the episode left off. Will be sending it for a beta shortly (if my beta volunteer hasn't been converted after watching Unending... *crosses fingers*). I'm not going to get into my feelings about the episode, since I already posted about them back in March when I saw the episode. All I'll say is that I'm glad the movies are coming and I really sincerely hope they will give us some Sam/Daniel, Daniel/Teal'c and Sam/Daniel/Teal'c friendship. Otherwise I guess I won't buy them and will just wile away my time watching the early season DVDs.

That's it I suppose... other then a couple of memes I gacked from [info]maevebran
