Happy Birthday,

[info]drgemini !!

Sorry if I'm a bit late... was so distracted with housework today (such a crummy excuse, I know...lol).  Anyway a couple of people are here to help us celebrate...

Hmm... on second thought, looks like they got a head start in celebrating ;)

I hope you had a great day!! :)

*hugs*

To all my other wonderful flisters, I won't be around much tomorrow as friends will be visiting for the weekend.  Here's wishing all my fellow Americans a Happy Memorial Day! :)

Watched SJA and Dr. Who last night.

So as related to the above... Do you guys think it's silly to spend episodes of tv shows searching for hidden messages or anything like that? Or should you just try to suspend disbelief when watching something and have fun with it? I guess if I keep assuming that shows are trying to whack me over the head with a certain message, and then I try to find that message, it stops being fun.  I don't know...

Have a smallish tv-ad-related rant...

What is up with all those "dumb daddy" commercials? aka the ones that portray the men as stupid and if they weren't married they would be dead from their own stupidity?  I can't stand those ads.  There used to be one for H&R Block where the husband was stuck figuring out their taxes and the wife asks why doesn't he get some help.  She says "what did we do last year? Oh, that's right, we used the box." Then picks up a box of software (I think) and says in this very condescending voice, "Why don't you ask the box?"  If I was the guy, I'd tell the woman we're filing separate returns next year.

Then there was one for a cereal, I think Multi-Grain Cheerios, where the husband notices his wife eating that cereal and asks if she's losing weight.  She gets all defensive and asks why. He backpedals and picks up the box, going "but it's got 7 whole grains, and that's good! Right?  It says so on the box." She says in this bitchy way, "What ELSE does the box say?" He answers: "The box says 'shut up, Steve.'" And she smirks at him. Ugh...

There's a new-ish ad for paint (Sure Coat, I think) where the wife is walking through the house with her (female) friend, looking for her husband as if he's a puppy.  He pops out of a box with a stupid look on his face and she shows him how to use a paint roller, like he's too stupid to know how to do such a thing.

And finally there's one for Johnsonville Brats.  The guy is groaning to himself over how it seems to be chicken for lunch (or whatever) every day , and he misses eating Johnsonville Brats because they're so good, etc. (while he's thinking of them, we see him having a vision of the brats cooking on a grill).  Suddenly he's roused awake by his wife going, "Honey? Honey?" She hands him a package of said brats and he looks like he's in heaven, going, "Ohhhh..." She says in this mock sympathetic tone, "I know..." like she's talking to a child.

Geez. Yeah, I know that women do make up a large percentage of consumers, but PLEASE. The male-bashing in commercials is getting old.  I may not be a feminist, but I am a woman and I don't see every guy out there being dumb as a box of rocks (and I've met a LOT of dumb guys).

*shakes head*

I won't be around tomorrow because we'll be taking my mom and grandmother out for Mother's Day dinner. I hope all the moms out there have a great Mother's Day. :)

Whether you're Irish or not! *grin*  I've only a bit of Irish blood in me (despite my last name, for anyone who knows it, lol) ... am more Scottish, German and even Italian - but my mom still makes the corned beef & cabbage, potatoes and soda bread.  I've never really liked the taste of corned beef (oh, and I don't like beer either... *icky*), but I do love the soda bread. :D

I got some pretty nice gifts for Christmas, but one in particular that arrived in the mail on Christmas Eve is hard to top:

Try to ignore the fact that I look drugged or something, LOL. Just focus on the gorgeous man next to me. :D

The funny thing is I had emailed Chris at Creation the day before asking about the photos.  Then I headed over to GW and one gal who had the same problem said she'd heard from him, and to tell everyone at GW that their photos will be arriving shortly (something about him doing three different shows at once and he got behind).  I'm just glad that it arrived.  But wow, what timing. *grins*

Anyway, I had a nice Christmas with my family.  On Christmas Eve we went to mass at 4pm, then got some dinner at a nice restaurant/pub called E.B Elliot's.  It's on a seaside strip called The Nautical Mile.  Nice views and the food was good.  The weather wasn't too bad either.  No snow, and not very cold.  Needless to say we didn't have a white Christmas.  It was quite bright out and around 45 F.

Among the gifts I received were a few sweaters, pairs of socks and a pair of gloves.  On DVD I got Doctor Who series 3 and Ghost Hunters season 3 part 1. Got a couple of jazz CD's, ghost hunting book by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson (from GH), the Supernatural novel "Witch's Canyon"...  um a couple of calendars as well - for my desk at work one with tropical seascapes and for home a Supernatural calendar.  Also got a pack of blank DVD-R discs and a 4GB pen drive for my computer.

Spent Christmas day with my parents, grandmother and uncle.  It was a nice, quiet day for the most part.  I do have some pics to share from Christmas morning... hope I am doing this right:

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas. :)

[info]maevebran -  I received your very nice Christmas card today.  Thanks so much :)  I'm sending yours out and you should have it in a few days.

Also received your card, [info]suzotchka ... You should have your card in a few days too. :)

In other news... finally made an animated snow icon that works okay and is under 40kb in size.  It's really tougher to do than I imagined with Animation Shop.  Took a screencap from A Very Supernatural Christmas... I couldn't resist.  Heeeeee. :D  Hopefully it's not too spoilery.  I did make one that would match up with my header a bit more but I have to tweak it a bit to get it under 40kb.  I figured this was a nice one to use in the Christmas season.

Thanks to [info]stargazercmc for the tips :)

To the fellow Americans on my F-List...

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

I'd better get back to cooking now.  I know I'm  a little behind in replying to comments, but I have a 4 day weekend coming up so that should help me catch up a little.

Have a Happy Halloween!!!

In a particularly good mood today - got a very good report from the orthopedic surgeon's office.  I have some very good strength back in my arm/shoulder, more flexibility and more range of motion.  I have to go back for another checkup in 6 weeks and if all goes well they will discharge me. *dances*

Still making con preparations.  All looks very good for the weekend.  Am excited to be seeing Michael, Paul, Cliff, Jay, and Kate.  And of course all the nice (and equally crazy... hee hee) fellow fans - most from Gateworld - that I met last year.  Again I will try to get some decent pics and a report to share.

Or Passover, or whatever you celebrate! :)  I hope everyone is doing well this weekend.  I'm just taking a quick break online between baking and other prep for tomorrow.  My grandmother will be staying with us, we'll be going to Church tonight and then tomorrow for dinner I believe it'll just be me, my parents, my grandmother and my uncle... a small gathering like we've done each year for about 10 or 12 years, or so.

The mail just arrived and my friend from Arizona sent me some Easter candy (chocolates, actually), which I wasn't expecting and thought was very nice... I gave up chocolate for Lent so you can imagine how I'm dying here, LOL ;)

Update on my friend from college... I went about a week before I emailed her back.  I just caved in because I was starting to feel guilty for ignoring her.  She did wish me a happy birthday in the card, even though it was a bit back-handed or short-sighted the way she did it.  I told her I hadn't heard from her in ages either, except for the forwarded emails she sent.  I told her I received her card but wasn't very happy with the note she included, that I thought it was a tad insensitive to write in a birthday card.  I also told her I didn't have anyone special (since that was what she said in the note - to bring someone special with me to her wedding) and I didn't think I'd be going.  I suppose my email came off as a bit cold but I had to let her know that she'd upset me somewhat.  I did thank her at the end for the birthday wishes and that was it.  I don't expect to hear back from her, but to be honest I don't really care that much.  She pretty much stopped bothering with me after she and her boyfriend got serious and it's a shame but things have really changed for both of us.  I have other friends with whom I feel a lot closer (even though they live further away), so it's not as if I have no one to talk to and she was the only one I could count on.  I do feel bad because I'd hate to lose anyone as a friend and stop bothering with them, but I guess it's just the way things happen sometimes.

Well, enough of that heavy-handed stuff, lol...  Hopefully we will be moving out of our crummy office space soon, too.  Our attorneys looked over the lease agreement for the space in the building next door, and there were only a couple of small concerns that they'll try to iron out with the landlord's attorneys.  They aren't a huge concern at all, the landlord is going to get some workmen to that space in the next couple of weeks, and we're going to get our tech guy to go over there and see how we can get things wired up inside, so it looks like we're one step closer to moving in there.  Our own landlord is asking to show our current space soon as well, so maybe we'll actually get out of here earlier than we thought (which was the end of June).  Things are looking up, so I'm pleased.

I better run... once again I hope my friends have a very Happy Easter, if you celebrate. :)

Okay, so this is a little late... *blushes*

But I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas.  On Christmas Eve my parents and I went to Church at 4 and then we headed down to the south shore for a seafood dinner.  All in all, we had a very nice evening.  Then it was back home to finish wrapping presents and baking cookies, plus the traditional watching of "A Christmas Story" on TV, lol

For Christmas I received a couple of sweaters, some socks, a couple of things of makeup, shower and bath stuff, DVD of Pirates of the Caribbean 2, and Doctor Who Series 1.  Yesterday we had a fairly quiet Christmas with my parents, uncle and grandmother.  My uncle played around with Penny (my dog) and spoiled her with doggy treats...she really needs a walk now!

Guess I better run.  Again, I hope everyone had a great Christmas. :)

...Yeah so I'm a few days early, big deal. ;) I don't know if I'll have time to post on the actual day. Not that I'm really doing much that day besides going to work. I'll probably just be handing out candy to the trick or treaters and then watching some scary stuff on TV.

Have my Daniel drawing all ready to send out to Chris tomorrow - via Priority Mail (so hopefully it will not get lost, Chris!). I guess an autograph is better than nothing - though still annoyed that I will probably never be able to see MS again. No really, I'm not bitter...

Speaking of the con, heard from the friend I'm going with so we'll be speaking soon about departure time, etc. Even though I'm disappointed that I can't see MS OR JF (he is coming now, but on Sunday and I can't really go...*sigh*), I'm still psyched about this. It's going to be fun putting faces to the screen names of my Gateworld friends! And still looking forward to seeing Teryl, Colin, Jason and Carmen. A bunch of us have written some short Jacob-centric drabbles for him and I'm going to give them to him when I go up for autographs. Supposed to be a b-day present (his b-day was this past Friday). Hopefully he'll like it and the Creation people won't be ogres snatching it away from me and not letting me give it to him...

Hope everyone has a happy Halloween!

Halloween Horoscope for Pisces

You tend to go for traditional, if not a bit historical, Halloween themes.
Candied apples, pumpkins, and warm cider make you excited each year.

Costume suggestions: An evil sorceress / sorcerer or a renaissance pirate / wench.

Signature Halloween candy: Candy corn

Wow... that thing is right on the mark...those are my preferred costumes, heh heh... (though never really liked candy corn much)
