Okay, I promised a few folks on my flist yesterday that I'd post some new art.  So I've got two wallpapers and some icons.  First, the icons.  I think I may have posted some of these in various places before, but I don't think I've posted them here yet.

My default userpic at the moment is a textless icon of Dean and Sam Winchester.  Why? Because Supernatural is my main obsession at the moment.  If one of my other fandom corners (Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, Dr. Who, etc.) manages to out-obsess Supernatural for a bit of time, then I will change it.  Or if I think it's too drab and I want an icon with prettier colors or some snazzy text, then I'll just use a different Supernatural one.  But I'm not feeling very creative at the moment, and I still love the boys, so it stays. ;)

So just throwing out some random stuff...

First, the comm sg1_five_things  has unscreened the prompt 39.04 "5 Times Sam and Daniel Went Out Together (as friends or on a "date")." Mine is posted there and there are a bunch of other nice ones as well. Check them out here

Second, I've noticed that The Legacy (Repro Images) site has been leaking some of the new-old Supernatural promo pics from S1 and 2. Speaking of which, their message board seems to be "On Hiatus." Anyone know what's going on with that? Anyway many of them have shown up in the dean_sam  comm. I noticed karmicunderpath  took one of the pics and tried to improve it ...take out the overwhelming bluishness of it... I thought she did a great job. I got kinda curious and wondered if I could do anything with that pic myself. So I tweaked the color balance and saturation a bit, did some shading, and here is what I came up with:



Not really much different from hers, and I think hers is a lot better... but I was just playing around with it and seeing what I could come up with.

1. I am technically left-handed but there are several things I cannot do with my left hand at all, like use a computer mouse or cut with a scissors. And several other things in which I am ambidexterous (like cutting with a knife, although past few years I tend to favor the right hand more with that).  Apart from my uncle, I'm the only person in my family who is left-handed.

2. I am mazeophobic - meaning I have a fear of getting lost.  Especially when I'm driving.  For that reason I always have to have my driving itinerary all planned out before I go anywhere new and having directions in front of me is a must.  Having other people in the car with me doesn't make it too bad, but I can get a bit panicky if I get lost all by myself.

3. I'm allergic to cats but not dogs.  Have no idea why.  I've had dogs all my life - maybe that's part of it.

4. When I'm driving and a good song comes on I'll usually sing along, but every so often check to see if anyone in cars next to me is watching. I'm too self-conscious I guess :P

5. When I was little I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up.  Then an art teacher, followed by a cartoonist, paleontologist, and finally meteorologist. Being a geologist didn't come up once.

6. I was always a painfully shy person until I got to college.  So shy that other kids in high school thought I was stuck up or a snob.  College changed that (to a degree anyway - I'm still a little shy but open up once I get to know someone more), thankfully.

7. When I was in school I played the violin and piano and took lessons for both (3 yrs for violin, 7 for piano).  I don't get to play violin anymore but sometimes I will play piano, particularly when no one is at home.

2008 Presidential Candidate Matching Quiz

Hmm, I thought Tancredo had dropped out (and didn't at least one of the Dem candidates as well?).  One reason I matched him so well is due to the immigration issue.  We have our share of problems with it here in NY, especially close to the city.  Especially gang related problems (MS-13 for one) and the day laborers issue.  Also we had a house across the street - a fairly large mother/daughter house, bought by a landlady who carved it up into many small apartments for illegal housing.  One of the men who lived there for a while was arrested for statutory rape.  Call me cruel and heartless on this issue, but I've seen what goes on firsthand so it's an issue that's pretty important to me.

As for all the GOP/red names leading the pack... Well, yeah I'm a pretty conservative, down-home gal.  I'm leaning more towards Thompson for who I'm supporting but I don't think he has much of a chance of getting the nomination.  I'm taking a more wait-and-see attitude, I guess. 

Now awaiting the outcry/name-calling/stoning/deletion-from-various-Friends'-lists...  *taps foot*... 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4.......

Yeah, some of these things are pretty weird... the "people who talk and dress like you in the media are portrayed positively"? What exactly do they mean? Uh, yeah I guess so........  "Same or higher class than your high school teachers"??  Well I'd say "same" class... my teachers weren't low class OR refined upper crust (even though this was a private Catholic school I attended).  Weird...

Some of my clothing was bought new before I turned 18 but not all of it.  And my first car was a hand-me-down from my parents (was my mom's 1984 Ford LTD), but it died soon after I started college and I bought a new (well, new-er... slightly used) car with money from my grandmother.  I had a private tutor for a bit in high school because one year I was very sick and missed a lot of school, so wasn't doing well in Math.  And in 11th grade we all had to take an SAT prep course.  As for summer camp, I only went when I was very little... for a year or two back when I was around 3.  The youth council at my elementary school district had a program called "summer recreation" that they held at our school. I went there from kindergarten to 2nd grade.  It was a few days per week each summer but nothing overnight.

Had a nice time out with a few friends last night.  We went to an old restaurant in Jericho (a town not too far away from here), the building itself has been around since the 1600s, was apparently popular during Colonial days, and is now a restaurant with a main building, carriage house (which is mainly used for different events), and a little village of shops that includes an ice cream parlor and bakery.  Went back to my house for some dessert and coffee (though we were all stuffed anyway).  Didn't do a whole lot except for chatting and watching the Twilight Zone marathon (just had to satisfy my inner geek. *grin*). 

And unlike last year I was actually able to make it to midnight.  Watched the ball drop in Times Square, we cheered and all that, wished each other a Happy New Year, watched a bit more TV and that was the extent of the celebration really.

Relaxed today for the most part.  Thought back on all the craziness - good and bad - that was part of 2007 for me.  Fandom-wise, we had SG-1 ending. I branched out into some other shows/fandoms as well, cooled my SG-1 fandom-ness just a tad (I don't think I'll ever let go of it completely - but I'm not as obsessed as I was 4 or 5 years ago... I don't think, anyway).

Real life-wise...  I had my laser eye surgery (which was successful, thank God), I'd met a few guys here and there, but none that I clicked with and the desire for a relationship was not there - either coming from my end or theirs.  There was my big accident in July that left me with a broken nose and arm/shoulder.  That was the toughest thing I had to go through, without a doubt.  Not just physically but emotionally/spiritually.  I don't think I would have gotten through it completely without the support and love from my family and friends.  Here it is more than 5 months later... I am for all intents and purposes pain free.  The only reminder I have that something happened was that I still can't lift my arm completely up as far as my left one.  I may never be able to get all my strength/mobility back. I'm trying to keep positive thoughts about it in the meantime. I visit the orthopedic surgeon again in a few weeks so we'll see what's what. 

So, looking ahead to this year, I am hoping that I will make a full recovery as far as the right arm goes.  I am hoping that I get a decent settlement as far as the accident goes (a woman from the kid's insurance company called last week and told me she was putting together a settlement package and wanted my medical records since the accident ... I referred her to my attorney). I am wishing both my parents success at their jobs (my dad has been slow to receive payments from clients), especially my mom who has been working two jobs lately, despite the fact that she will be retiring in several years.

And last but not least I am hoping I meet someone special.  I'm going to be 30 this year...next month actually... and finding that special someone has been a long, sometimes frustrating process.  Don't get me wrong - I love being single most of the time, getting to do what I want when I want, but I don't have a lot of friends who live nearby that I get to see often, and at times I just feel like my life is missing something.  And as childish or stupid as it sounds, I sometimes feel very bitter when my friends who are married/engaged or have boyfriends brag to me about it.

Here's hoping that something good comes out of this year.
