New MS Interview on IGN

Okay, let me preface this by saying that I mean no offense against MS.  But I read a new interview and something he said in it struck me funny...

"We dally in some different parts of standalone episodes with um…with
uh…what the hell is her name…Carter (laughs) that I wasn't around and
don't appear because I took two episodes off in the summer time to
spend it with my family and so Daniel had to disappear for some time,
and he comes back and is kind of a villain, so we'll see how that
fleshes out, and Carter I think has some perspective reality
standalone episode and some more Ori stories and then we wrap it up
with this really neat possible future episode at the end of the season."

I may be making too big a deal out of this, but I'm very surprised that he forgot the character's name.  I mean, I'd think it'd be pretty hard to forget the name of someone's character - someone you've been working with for almost ten years.  I also was struck by the way he referred to the character as "Carter." My memory's a bit fuzzy but didn't he refer to her as "Sam" or "Major Carter," "Colonel Carter" etc. in years past?  It almost seems to me that he has some disdain for the character.

The whole interview is here.

I also find striking the difference in the way he talks about Claudia/Vala from the way he talks about Amanda/"Carter."  He's almost canonizing Claudia as a Saint while with Amanda it's like "Eh, yeah I guess she's doing something, but have no idea what."  I know how much he loves working with Claudia and I don't fault him for that, but what the heck is going on between him and Amanda? How did we get from the cute "Amanda and I are kissing cousins" from the Grand Slam con a few years ago to this?

I posted about this in a couple of Yahoo groups and people are jumping on me in one of them for apparently offending Michael, saying that "oh he just forgot the character's name, he's human," etc.  Again I ask, how could you forget the character's name after you've worked with the actress for so many years? I'm not saying that he's superhuman and should remember every single intricate detail of the show, like how many tons the Stargate weighs or how many hours Sam logged in the Gulf War or anything like that, but forgeting something like a well-known character's name is pretty bad I think.

Again, I think his affection for the Vala character and his dislike of "Carter" are quite evident, IMO.  I'm probably going out on a limb here - but I wonder if he holds some contempt for Amanda because she made Claudia leave after she came back from her maternity leave.  In an interview from S9, he said it was such a treat working with CB, that the first few episodes of S9 were great and then when AT came back he was annoyed because they had to get back into this old rhythm or routine.  Again I mean no offense against him, but geez, as if the poor woman could help having a baby?  Is it such a crime that she wanted to come back to the show again?  Did she really ruin the fun that much?

I'm really starting to feel bad for Amanda, if he isn't acting like a friend to her anymore because of something like this.  I hate speculating and again no offense intended, but I find it just ridiculous.  I really don't see how there is any excuse for forgetting a main character's name, even if he was laughing about it.  I doubt he'd forget Vala's name.

I'll stop ranting about this now, but I hope no one jumps on me for this.  Again I mean no offense against MS at all... I realize he is human and no one is perfect, but I did not expect him to forgot the character's name like that or refer to her in such a disdainful way.  I think it's quite sad and it almost makes me happier than ever that this show is ending.

Any thoughts?
