Unfinished Business: Renew Supernatural Postcard Campaign Unveiling
So we finally have the grand unveiling of this postcard campaign.

Why are we doing this?

Various recent statements by cast & crew mention how season 5 is pretty much up in the air.  They don't know if there will be a season 5.  On one hand, yes, the ratings have been very strong this year.  That would point to a better likelihood of renewal.  So if renewal is more likely, why are we bothering with any sort of campaign? On the other hand, the CW hasn't given our show very much love ever since it's carried the show starting in season 2.  It's just a business and they make up their own minds, hardly swayed at all by any kind of fan outcry.  So again, why are we bothering with any sort of campaign?

In both cases, it never hurts to show the network how much we love this show and want to see it continue.  Don't let strong ratings make you complacent, but don't let the attitude of the network discourage you from showing your support.

The bottom line is:  We love this show.  We want it to continue.  The Winchester saga is not over yet, and we want to see it play out to the very end (whenever that comes in Kripke's plans).

So here is the deal:

We've got three different postcard designs.  You are free to use any of these, or use your own if you like (as long as it has "Unfinished Business" and "Renew Supernatural for season 5" on it somewhere).  You can even donate some if you wish. I will add them to this post and alert you to updates.

You can print these out if you have access to a printer and postcard stock.  Each of these images should be ready to print out on 4 x 6 inches postcards.  You can also use the USPS' Premium Postcard service to make your postcards (which may be especially handy if you're in the US and don't have access to a good printer or postcard stock ... thanks much to bardicvoice for the suggestion!).  If you decide to use any of these images and have problems, let me know.  They should be at the right size and resolution for printing, but I really am not much of an expert on this sort of thing. *blushes*

Here are the images.  Click on each to enlarge (the last two are a bit large):

  (Design 1 Back image)
(Design 1 Front)

(Design 2 Front)                                       (Design 2 Back image)

(Design 3 Front)                             (Design 3 Back image)

(many thanks to yaya_wr8t3r for Design 3!)

These have all been adjusted to fit the USPS specs for postcard printing. Again, if you have any problems printing any of these out or have any suggestions for me, please let me know.

And here is the address to which these postcards should be sent:

Dawn Ostroff
President of Entertainment
CW Network
3300 West Olive Ave. 3rd Floor
Burbank, CA 91505

As I've said in previous posts, the goal is to try sending at least one postcard each day up until the season finale (or until we get word of renewal, whichever comes first).  If that is beyond your budget, try to send as many as you can.  We want to show as much love for this show as possible.  Whether or not it will make a dent and influence them to renew the show earlier (_if at all_), who knows.  But there is never any harm in trying, and in showing our support in any way we can.

If you do decide to participate, spread the word! Tell those who you think may be interested, ask them to tell their friends, friends of friends, etc., you get the idea.  The more people who know about it, the better!

I appreciate every and any bit of support and as always, if you have any questions, concerns, contributions in the form of artwork or advice, please let me know in a comment here or in PM.  As I've said I want to leave this as open to you guys as possible.

I'm going to print the first one
just one question:do I have to print even the back front or I can use just the front
because I don't know how to do it
jessm78jessm78 on February 23rd, 2009 08:37 pm (UTC)
Sounds great :)

You can use just the front, I think the back image is better for people who want to use that Premium Postcard site, I made it so it would be the size they want for a back image, if people choose to use it. But you don't have to, just using the front is fine. :)

I have no idea how to pring these off as postcards....??? Help?
jessm78jessm78 on February 24th, 2009 02:43 am (UTC)
Did you go to the Premium Postcard link? You can have them print off the postcards for you, so you don't have to worry about finding a printer or cards to print them on.

If you want to print them yourself, you'll have to buy some 4x6 inch cardstock, put it into your printer, and then use whatever program you're using to view the pics to print them off.

If none of these are an option for you, you can try printing the pics out on regular paper, then cutting them to fit the size of a postcard and pasting them to the front of a regular postcard (these would be just the "Front" pics).

I hope some of this helps!

As a fellow fan, I appreciate the effort you're putting into SPN renewal, please don't take personal what I'm going to tell you next. What's the point? Printing out postcards (waste of paper or cardbox (p.s. save the environment)) and spending money on the postage of said postcards to Dawn Ostroff, which she won't even bother to read, btw. Her subordinates are the ones who will be left with the stressful task of dealing with the postcards.

Why don't you use these nice designs -which I really liked- to make banners, instead, and we could use them as signatures when we are posting in various communities we go to. Especially in the ones that are not devoted to Supernatural, it could be in the forums of magazines (if they don't allow the use of graphic sigs, we could use only the message "Unfinished Business..." at the bottom of our message. That way, we could increase the promotion of the show online AND -in doing so- maybe attract the attention of the CW suits to our show.
wyntertwilight: lady in blackwyntertwilight on February 24th, 2009 12:21 am (UTC)
No offence, but how stressful is it going to be having to read a few lines on a 4x6 postcard? And to be honest, it doesn't really matter if Dawn Ostroff reads each card separately or not, so long as she knows that she's getting them in the first place. So long as she realises the effort the fans have put in to get the show renewed, I think we have a chance, and hopefully it'll give her some food for thought. That's the point.

Posting on forums and online communities isn't going to do any good now either, because who, other than actual fans of the show, is going to bother watching the remaining part of S4? It's too late to recruit new fans, and even if we did, I don't know how much of a difference it would make, when we know a difference could be made by attracting the attention of the network and "suits" themselves at HQ by sending cards. It doesn't hurt to try, anyway.

Hi - just a quick thought - a postcard a day is a lot -- last season we had organized a once a week postcard campaign while SN was off the schedule -- mailing it on Monday so it arrived on Thursday (SN Day!)
And it never hurts to include a positive - 'Thank you, CW for airing the best show on TV -- Supernatural!'
Postcards are a great way to do this --BTW -- in response to the gloom and doomer above -- postcards are not terribly stressful for the staff -- they don't have to open it, its easy to tell what show its in support of- easy to grasp the message AND everyone whose hands it passes through can read the message and see the support for SN.

Is this affiliated with SPNPostcards?

I disagree with the poster also about it being too late to draw new viewers-- right no new viewers -- that's why S4 ratings are up a million from S3 . . . . . .

Oh, I'm sorry. Did I hurt *your* feelings with my OPINION? I was speaking about the cons of a project, not a person. Jeez, it's really annoying when people take personal when other poster come in and give thoughts just because they are opposite to the ones they have. ESPECIALLY when this people is not the one who started the thread to begin with. Just give your opinion on what I said, but you don't really have to take it personal by name-calling. Others have done it without having the need to insult.

"I disagree with the poster ALSO about it being too late to draw new viewers-- right no new viewers -- that's why S4 ratings are up a million from S3 . . . "
If with 'the poster', you are referring also to the "gloom and doomer" (meaning *me*, of course) let me correct you: I was not the one who said it was too late to draw new viewers now that s4 is half way through. So you're not disagreeing with me, but with 'wyntertwilight' ("Posting on forums and online communities isn't going to do any good now either, because who, other than actual fans of the show, is going to bother watching the remaining part of S4?").

Hey, I think this is great and I think it has potential. If you need some ideas of what else to do I recommend that you try and get in contact with the group of people that did the http://savedanieljackson.com/ (From Stargate)campaign, it was very successful (we got our character back) and very big, just to get an idea of what else to do, I know they did polls and banners and send cards and other stuff to a lot of key people. I also remember that they went to cons with banners, that had the names and messages from people in lj (if I'm not mistaken this was done when they announce that the show was going to be cancel), and to those wondering what the point is, I that besides getting a new season, we are showing support and appreciation to the writers, producers, creator, actors, p.a, and all the other people involved in making a series.

Thanks! Hey, what a coincidence... I've been a big Stargate fan myself, although I didn't participate a whole lot in the Save Daniel Jackson campaign... I was just coming into the fandom at the time, and I didn't know very much about it. My friend told me about it and I tried to get involved. I remember seeing all the ads and such for it. I'm going to try contacting them and see if they can give me some more advice or ideas.

Thanks so much for the heads up! :)

I've just heard that the show was renewed though... maybe people can send postcards thanking the CW for renewing it instead. That might be a good idea :)
