Some musings about ...
... the latest episode of Stargate. But first, a meme I gacked from maevebran

If it's not one thing, it's another. Your life is a pitiful wreck, and it's all you ever write about. Why don't you at least make up a happy story for once. Your friends would appreciate that.

Well, I didn't think I was that bad, but I guess I am... *shrugs*

I haven't seen this episode in totality yet, but what I have seen/heard just makes me even more disappointed about this season...

First, I was glad there was actually some Sam/Vala scenes in this one. They've been long overdue and we haven't seen very
much in the way of development between Sam and Vala's friendship. Daniel wasn't in this ep a whole lot, but I was a bit miffed
that all his scenes were with Vala and yet again he had no interaction with Sam or Teal'c. I really try not to get my hopes up in
that regard, but a little part of me still hopes that there will be at least something - something that I can get one or two screen
caps out of , anyway - and then I have a big letdown.

I guess I should watch the show for more than just Sam/Daniel or Sam/Daniel/Teal'c interaction, but it's hard to sometimes.
I mean no offense to Daniel/Vala shippers but it seems that their friendship or whatever is all TPTB care about showing
nowadays. They even went so far as to have Daniel and Vala sit together in the briefing room AND wear the same color
BDU's. Maybe that doesn't mean anything and I'm just paranoid but it's enough to make me wonder if they have assigned
seats and assigned BDU colors, like some military vs. civilian distinction. Or if they're subliminally trying to tell us that these
two just belong together or something. *sigh*

I know I've said this way too many times before but it's really hard for me to believe that Daniel is still friends with Sam and
Teal'c. I need evidence of it, otherwise how can you assume that they are friends? Just because they were friends for so long
doesn't mean that they can remain so. Who's to say that they didn't have some huge fight offscreen? I just haven't seen
anything this season to make me believe that they are still friends. Yeah, there was the scene in Talion where Daniel was
with Teal'c in the infirmary but that was a flash in the pan - and there was the scene in Morpheus between Daniel and Sam,
but that was at the beginning and there hasn't been anything at all since.

I'm sorry I keep harping on this. I know I shouldn't let it bother me so much, but it's getting a bit hard to watch this show
because I feel they're trying to force Daniel/Vala down my throat (again no offense to D/V shippers!) and destroy the old
friendships in the process. SG-1 used to be such a great team and now they're fragmented into Daniel/Vala, Sam/Cam and
Teal'c. It's pretty disheartening to me.

I'm just glad that I'm getting to watch the eps now so I know what to expect and don't have to worry about watching them later
on SciFi. I just really miss the old friendships so much and wish TPTB didn't have to be this stupid to get rid of them. *sigh*

Well, I was able to watch this episode today since I didn't make it to work today...

I have to say that I agree with all that you said about everything... And one day, when I get the urge, I'll post my thoughts... They might be long.. and ranting.. and yelling.. who knows..

But I loved the Sam/Vala scenes. They have been long overdue, and I'm glad that we got some..

Knowing that there are only 2 episodes left, I'm feeling a bit conflicted about this...

On one hand, I'm sad to see it end. It's been 10 yrs... none of the other shows that I watch last this long. And the reasons I've watched this show have changed throughout the years.

On the other hand... I'm kinda glad that it's ending... I can't say that I've agreed with some of the choices TPTB have made concerning the characters lately, and that bothers me greatly. I could get into a big long bitching rant about that.. But not here..

I am glad that Amanda is going to be on Atlantis next season.. Apparently Sam will have her own ship... I'm excited!

Thanks. Yeah I imagine people are getting tired of hearing me rant and yell about it... but I have no other place to do it, lol...

Even though I'm kinda glad it's ending, I'm a bit sad too. I think if it'd been a lot better (as far as character interactions anyway) I would've been even more sad. I guess there's nothing left to do but live in AU and fic land where the sun always shines, and Sam and Daniel are always friends (or more, LOL ;)).

I'm interested to see what happens with Amanda on Atlantis too! I hope that it won't coincide with the Stargate movies, esp. if they do more than 2. I don't think I could watch them without her in them, lol

From what I understand, I don't think her being on Atlantis will mess up her role in the movies... I hope not..

That would be good. :)

I just saw some screen caps for this episode and none of Daniel with Sam. He's with Vala in all of them... *sigh*

I've always been someone who prefers the first three seasons because I think that's when they did the best job of keeping everything even when it came to the team relationships. However, even with my annoyance at the forcing of the Jack/Sam ship, there were still enough moments between them all that it didn't hurt my viewing experience. So I do completely agree that it's annoying how they're handling it this year (and even some of last for that matter).

As far as them not being friends however, I think that's just the writers having problems with how to organize. Things that Michael, Chris, and Amanda have said leave me to believe they still view Daniel, Sam, and Teal'c as friends so while it's certainly true that just because they've known each other for so long, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll always be friends, I don't think that's the intention they're trying to get across. I think the writers just assume that the audience will do the work for them and keep assuming that Sam, Daniel, and Teal'c are still best buddies even if they don't get many moments to show that. The most we've really gotten is seeing them all work together as a team and some moments here and there where they worry about each other but of course we're used to the first 8 seasons where there was more than that. Where we actually got to see longer intimate moments between the four of them (in various formations). I think the writers are so obsessed with their new characters particularly Vala and to a lesser extent Mitchell, that they fail to remember that they have to actually show everyone's bond between the original members instead of just assume the audience knows for sure that it's still alive and well. I don't even think it's about Daniel/Vala for the writers but moreso about Vala in general and because they started out with her meeting him only, they use his character more as an excuse to play with Vala herself but that's just my interpretation of course.

I agree also that the color coordination is lame too though I don't think it's actually supposed to show that they're meant to be unless they're also trying to say that Mitchell and Sam are meant to be.

I'm nervous over the last two episodes because this next one has the description sounding a little too Vala heavy for my tastes too and I also dread the chance that the last episode will have corny Daniel/Vala romantic moments and I have no interest in seeing that. I hope there's at least one (but hopefully more) intimate moment between Daniel and Sam, Daniel and Teal'c, Sam and Teal'c, and all three of them.

I'm kind of getting annoyed at the Our Stargate forums because though I only really lurk there, there is way too much Sam dislike and I also hate the fact that some of them actually complained that there wasn't enough Daniel/Vala in the last couple of episodes. I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder but they really must want it to be completely the D/V show if they don't think D/V are already joined at the hip and that it's a good thing for Vala to finally interact with others such as Sam. If only we could get more of Daniel doing the same (and not just doing that with Mitchell).

Basically it all comes down to, I DO think we're still meant to think that Daniel, Sam, and Teal'c (and Jack) remain best friends/family but I think the writers are lazy in their assumption that we'll understand that without showing us scenes of them together.

Thanks for commenting. I think you hit the nail on the head there. Comments that MS and AT have made lead me to believe they think the original 3 characters are still friends. It does seem to be the laziness of the writers and their heavy focus on Vala (and Mitchell to a lesser degree).

Season 1-3 are also my favorite seasons because, as you said, they didn't focus too heavily on any particular pairing. We had a nice team vibe and had nice moments between each character. They've really dropped the ball this season mostly due to the focus on Vala. It does seem like they want us to just assume Sam, Daniel and Teal'c are still friends because they've been friends for so long. Sounds like laziness to me.

I feel the same way about the last 2 episodes. The one for this week sounds a bit Vala-heavy, which may also translate into a lot of D/V. I'm also hoping against a D/V kiss in the finale. Nothing has been said for sure about that, but I have this feeling.... All in all, if we don't get any moments between Sam and Daniel, Sam and Teal'c, and Teal'c and Daniel (as well as all 3 together), I'm going to be very disappointed. There should be some tribute paid to their friendship. I believe AT said there was a nice moment between Sam and Teal'c, but I'd hate for them to exclude Daniel for the sake of D/V.

I know what you mean about Our Stargate. I used to lurk/post over there, but I was flamed by a D/V fan and it seems there's a lot of Sam hate there (I remember what they said about her when she came back in Beachhead... was awful), and a big obsession with D/V. It does sound like a lot of them want it to be the Daniel/Vala show. I know some of those shippers are still hoping MS stars in the 3rd series (despite the fact he already said it was a rumor), so they can start a campaign to have both him and CB on it - The Daniel/Vala Show. People are entitled to their opinions, but I've just grown weary of the whole thing.
