Supernatural: Brothers (from ELAC)

Any TV/Video experts out there?

I've mentioned this problem before in my SPN episode reviews, but it's really starting to frustrate me. Ever since about a month ago, the shows being broadcast on my local CW affiliate are now in full screen format. It drives me nuts because it's zoomed in A LOT, looks blurry, and the sides are cut off. There are times when you can only see half of a person's face!

I was assuming this was done in preparation for the digital changeover in June, but I really don't know. I don't think I have to do anything special for that anyway because I already have a digital signal with my satellite TV. My CW is supposedly broadcast in HD where available. I don't have a wide-screen HD TV set. My 19-inch TV is a little over 10 years old (I think it's an RCA).  Could this have something to do with my picture looking crappy?

I have Dish Network and I don't *think* my satellite receiver is HD. I really don't know how to tell if it is or not. Could this be part of the problem?

I guess what bothers me the most is not knowing what is causing the problem and I have no idea where to start.  But it bugs me having to watch shows online so I can see them in the proper format.  I contacted my local CW and asked them about this, because I think it's weird that this just suddenly started happening. Before last month, everything looked fine.

I hate feeling so clueless. The only steps I can think of to solve this are 1) buy a widescreen HD TV set for what I'm assuming would be thousands of dollars; 2) look into upgrading my satellite receiver to an HD one (if I have to and if it's possible); or 3) both.

Anyone have any idea on why this could be happening? I have no idea who else to contact about this or where to post it. And I'm not finding anything helpful in the internet searches I've been doing.
