SPN #8x01 We Need To Talk About Kevin (episode review)

Here are my initial thoughts after watching this episode...

So we get Dean's line from season 1 again (the "Saving people, hunting things" one). I heard that Jensen said (maybe at Dallas con?) he re-recorded it because his voice had changed since season 1.

Yay for rock 'n roll, though I don't know either of those songs, LOL (the second ones sounded a little familiar though).

Hey look, it's Eli--er, Benny. I need to see more of him before I really form an opinion of him. He sounds like a guy who could have a knack for trouble, especially from what I saw of him in that final scene. And at times his voice kind of reminded me of the second guy who played Alistair (Christopher Heyerdahl's). What was Dean doing in the beginning at that Crossroads? Some kind of ritual to bring Benny here?

So it seems that Benny didn't actually physically bring Dean back, but he told him how to get back. Dean really seems like a war-torn soldier. Although we've still got glimpses of his old self with the way he devours that burger...

Aww, Sam and a doggie....

IDK but Sam and Dean's reunion scene reminded me a little of the reunion scene in 6x01. Just kind of had the same feel to it, to me. And wow but it bothers me to see Sam painted as such a bad guy. :( He explains to Dean why he just left the hunting life, that Bobby was dead, Kevin was gone and Dean was gone. But I refuse to believe that he didn't even try to look for Dean, at least first. Though it was a little interesting what he said about fixing up the Impala and just driving. Did he feel that doing that would sort of keep Dean with him in spirit? I mean, with the Impala? Or in desperation he thought that driving around would somehow lead him toward Dean? I don't know what to think really but I just can't see him even trying to look in the very beginning. I hope that something about that will come out later. If we keep getting flashbacks, hopefully it will.

Not sure I'm really liking all the tension between the boys. I guess it does make things interesting, but I really don't want to see a whole season of nothing but this. I'd like to see some nice, light-hearted moments in between, too. I know it's early, it's only the first episode so I won't freak out yet. But I just hope this isn't all we're going to see this season.

And of course the guilt hits Sam when he hears all the messages from Kevin. And Kevin's girlfriend is possessed by a demon. How did I not see that coming? But we do get an explanation of where Kevin's hair went, LOL. Sounds like Crowley's guys cut it? Heh. Wonder what's going to happen with this whole "gates of Hell" thing. I'm guessing that Sam said he wasn't sure if he wanted to get involved in it because he's still not sure about getting back into the hunting world?

When Crowley greets Sam he says something like "Still got the pork chops." What's he referring to? The sideburns have been scaled back a lot. Lol if he was talking about his hair I guess I could see that, though it doesn't really fit. Maybe it's a Crowley malapropism. *g*

Nice fake out by Kevin, pretending to give himself up to Crowley and then turn around and save the boys (and himself). But I figured Crowley would kill his girlfriend. Poor guy. Dean's right, he is stuck in this life now.

So that's about all I got. Interesting stuff but again I hope this season won't be all tension between Sam and Dean. I guess we'll see.
