SPN 12x22 Who We Are; 12x23 All Along the Watchtower (episode reviews)

I hope some of this makes sense as I have a splitting headache now, thanks to the sudden sweltering heat we've had here the past two days... Here goes...

Okay, starting with 12x22 I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

First, the brother moments... That one where they're sitting as they realize the plan to physically wreck the bunker to get the system turned back on isn't going anywhere...Can't complain about Sam in one layer, mmm. :) I also loved, loved, loved Sam's determination in stopping the BMOL, rounding up the surviving hunters and taking the fight to them. AND Dean's trusting him to do the job and be okay while he tries to get through to Mary (and the return if "bitch" "jerk"). Speaking of the other hunters, I'm glad that Jody didn't get killed. And I loved that they did kick the BMOL's asses, and especially Sam not giving in to Hess and letting Jody kill her.

I was glad to see Dean finally get through to Mary in her subconscious world (though the kid playing young Dean looked more like a young Sam to me). That speech about how she did this to them, abandoned them etc and about what happened to them afterward, the whole "I hate you" thing was heartbreaking, but then of course he says "But I love you and I forgive you." Dean understands because he's done the same thing: made deals to save the ones he loves. That was definitely what Mary needed to hear and it did end up bringing her around. I expected Ketch to show up and his killing Toni was no surprise at all. It was satisfying to see Mary shoot him.

And the end with Dean and Mary talking, and Mary telling him she's afraid of how Sam would react, and sweet Sam shows up and tells her not to be afraid of him. That look on his face and then the two of them hugging....and then the family hug....Awwww. This was so sorely needed.

Oh one more thing: Was that a grenade launcher Dean used to try and blast through the bunker walls?

Now onto 12x23...

Probably an unpopular opinion but I thought the Kelly/Cas stuff dragged a lot. I kept looking at my clock waiting for the scene to change.

The situation with the rift in time and space (why am I getting Dr. Who vibes now?) was interesting. I knew that was going to play a part later.

To those who said Crowley went into that rat, you were right. Even after his treachery with the Lucifer stuff he did come through for the boys. So I guess he really is dead now? When he and Sam were doing that spell to seal the rift, he said they needed one more ingredient: a life and then Crowley stabbed himself...shortly thereafter the rift closed so I guess he sacrificed himself. A good way to go out, I'd say. Unless he does manage to come back again at some point (though I'm not too certain of that given what I've heard about Mark S). Rowena didn't fare as well sadly...geez, Lucifer set her on fire? Ouch...

I saw theories floating around that the "you" who Cas saw walking up to him in that alternate reality was Bobby. Nice to see him again even if he is a different Bobby. And I guess he trusted the boys enough to give Dean that angel-killing machine gun (even if it didn't work on Lucifer).

So even though he managed to sneak back through the rift, Cas gets killed by Lucifer. He threatens the boys but then Mary comes to the rescue as she beats the stuffing out of him...and now they're both stuck in the alternate reality.

I guess Cas won't be gone permanently though...hardly anyone ever is on this show. Sam runs back into the house and I pretty much expected the cliffhanger to end with the Lucifer kid. The thing looked creepy in the dark there, though I think I was kind of getting a Golum vibe from him, I was almost waiting for him to say "My precioussssssss..." LOL.

So, I guess I expect they will bring Cas back somehow. Not sure if we'll see Mary again or if she, in essence, sacrificed herself for her boys by going back into that other world with Lucifer. And I wonder if they will pick right up where they left off at the end or if they'll do a time jump. I assume given the way things were left with both Cas and the kid a time jump would be a disservice. Hopefully they won't go that route.
