SPN #13x16 Scoobynatural (episode review)
Um... I'm kind of torn on this one. I wanted to think it was cute, but a part of me thought it was so way over the top I ended up cringing at times.

I know this was not to be taken seriously at all and was supposed to be all in good fun, but...yeah, I did cringe at times.

I watched the old Scooby Doo cartoon show as a kid, around 5-7 years old or so and I enjoyed it, so I went into this a little nostalgia-minded. I also remember Dean's comment back in S2 (Playthings?) about maybe running into the Scooby gang and "mmm, Daphne, love her." So I expected him to have a thing for her, but IMO that was one of the things they went a little over the top with. His disdain for Fred was good for a little chuckle though. Velma's crush on Sam was also kind of funny though a bit cliched. I did like the montage of them all running around to the Scooby Doo theme song.

It was kind of an interesting twist that this cartoon world was actually dealing with a real spirit and not some guy in a mask like they always dealt with, and that the Scooby gang was tough to come to terms with that. The spirit of the little boy talking about "the bad man" making him do these things sounds a lot like something that was done already in an SPN episode (don't ask me which one, I just remember seeing it before).

The part before they (Sam, Dean and Cas) left and were saying goodbye, Cas tells Shaggy and Scooby that he admires them bringing laughter in the face of danger...huh?? Was that just a throwaway comment played up for laughs?

Finally, the end where they get the "bad man" arrested... Dean is wearing an ascot. He hints he'll score some chicks with that now, I guess? Bad guy says the "I would've gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids" line that was always said in the cartoon. Dean is orgasmic over this and he then says, ala Scooby, "Scooby Dooby Dooooo!" Um...lol, I almost felt embarrassed for Jensen there. ;)

Again, I know this was all in good fun and maybe I'll change my mind upon watching it again...and the very idea was cute, but some of he execution I just found a bit too over the top for my liking.

I've barely watched all season. I watched this and laughed a lot. I don't mind when the actors (esp. Jensen) make idiots of themselves. Also, I hated the cartoon. So maybe that was part of it.

I rewatched this one and I think I was a little too harsh in my review. I probably took it a little too seriously than I should have. There were some very funny moments although I still couldn't keep from cringing a little when Jensen did the "Scooby Scooby Doo!" thing at the end. I think no matter how many times I'll watch it, the cringe will still be there. LOL.

S13 for me as been such a chore and to date (thats see what S14 is like) as been the only season where I have not watched episodes and I have NEVER done that before. Even during S10 and Charlie eps I still watched.

So the Scooby ep I have actual been looking forward to since it was announced way back before S13 started.

I knew it was going to be hit or miss. But I for once avoided Tumblr and youtube so I could just watch the ep without people's comments ruining it for me. Sometimes peoples comments make the ep less enjoyable.

Anyway back to the ep. I liked it. I would give it an 8/10.

Sam got the best lines in the ep and glad he wasn't in the background of such a big ep. Velma and Sam where a good team up and loved Velma's crash on Sam. WAS NOT expecting the kiss though and I laughed my ass off at how she dipped Sam. Get it girl.

Castiel was OK but he was CLEARLY shoe horned into the ep. He added nothing and you could cut him out of the ep and it wouldn't change anything. So while he didn't piss me off too much. Still annoying how Misha was clearly added into this ep cause he is friends with Singer.

Now Dean.....wow.Loads of people loved Sam in the ep which I agree but Dean?! He was way to OTT. Which worked OK in the animated parts though still alittle embarrassing, the live action parts made me cringe so hard.

That Scooby Scooby Doo part just really take me out of it and I nearly set down my tablet.

They need to stop making Dean look dumb to be funny.

So all in all a good ep I just think it gets too goofy in parts and they made Dean the butt of the joke again.

Sometimes I'm glad Sam takes a backseat

The funny thing is after I posted my review and was looking for other people's thoughts on this episode, I saw a lot of them praising it and I almost started to feel bad, lol.

I did rewatch it and I liked it a lot more the second time around. I loved Sam's lines in this one (I even liked the PJs he was wearing when they were spending the night in the house lol). I wasn't expecting Velma's crush on Sam but I did like it and her dipping Sam was priceless.

Totally agree that Castiel seemed shoehorned into this one. They just stuck him in there for the sake of including him and ... well... I'm sure you probably know the other reasons, lol. They could have cut him out.

THANK YOU. I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who thought Dean was OTT, especially in the live action parts. I cringed at the "Scooby Soocby Doo" line. I know Dean has had a lot of comic relief over the years and that's fine, but I think that less is more sometimes.

Sorry for late answer I keep forgetting to check here

Yeah I'm glad the ep worked out and people enjoyed it. But it wasn't perfect.

I somehow missed this ep when I was catching up on the season! It was goofy and ridiculous. But that's just what I needed right now.

Hm, let's see if I missed any other eps!

Yeah, after I watched that one the second time I realized I was a bit too harsh in my review. If I don't take it so seriously it's not that bad. Have to like it for the goofiness.

Most of the others I've only watched once this season, which is surprising because most times I'd usually rewatch them at least once.
